Cassie Slater is a mother, a teacher, a maker, a director, and an award-winning actor and singer. After receiving her BFA from The Theatre School at DePaul University, she began her career in Chicago where she was a recipient of a Joseph Jefferson Award for her role as Mary in Merrily We Roll Along. Regionally she has worked with Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Timeline Theater Company, Barrington Stage Company, The Marriott Theatre, and Peninsula Players Theatre among many others. She has worked extensively in the development of new musicals (BMI and William Finn’s Musical Theatre Lab at Barrington Stage Company) and originated the roles of Lauren and Judy in BSC's See Rock City and Other Destinations (she reprised that role again at the National Alliance of Music Theatre Festival). She has been a featured vocalist at Lincoln Center, Birdland, Joe's Pub, Merkin Concert Hall, Don't Tell Mama, and Ars Nova. In 2009, she won the New York Music Theater Festival's Next Broadway Sensation Competition, which led to her solo show Chimera at Joe's Pub. Using the songs of Brandi Carlile, Cassie wrote an autobiographical play with music, How To Lobster, that premiered as part of Steppenwolf Theatre’s LookOut Series in the spring of 2023. Cassie created the award-winning early childhood music and creative play program, Stomp and Shout Kids in 2012 which continues to encourage joy, social emotional learning and authentic creativity with the early childhood set in Chicago and beyond. She was the Educational Director for Sunrise Arts Group in Shanghai China for two seasons and has taught and/or directed for multiple young people’s programs across the US. Cassie is a graduate of The Theatre School at Depaul University, a current MFA student at the University of Idaho and is a proud member of Actors Equity. Cassie is represented by Stewart Talent Agency. Her greatest achievement is being mom to sweet Winona.
